How we keep it honest

What we verify

• ABN: We check the number against the Australian Business Register (active status and entity name) when lookup is configured.
• Exact credentials: For licensed or registered work we check the current official register (QBCC, Electrical Safety Office, ARCTick, OFT, TPB, ASIC, AHPRA, QLS, and others as listed on the profile). We do not collect driver’s licences, passports, or photo ID.
• Wellbeing platform checks: Counsellor, nutritionist, and massage therapist listings are not Queensland or AHPRA licences. We review a relevant qualification or professional association membership before those providers can accept.
• Blue cards: Child-facing tutoring, fitness, or coaching stays closed until a current Queensland blue or exemption card is checked. Adult-only work does not require one.
• Introduction only: HandyBoomer introduces households and providers. We do not endorse competence or guarantee outcomes, including for unregulated titles such as coach or counsellor.
• Insurance expectations: Public liability cover is part of our trust model (details align with live membership when you join; product commitment, not a fake badge).
• Profile honesty: Years on the tools and reviews are visible so experience isn’t hidden behind a star alone.

What we don’t (and can’t) guarantee alone

• Licences can expire or change: We recommend you still sight a current licence on the job, matching the person doing the work and the job type/value.
• Employees and subcontractors: If a business sends more than one person, check who’s actually on site.
• National “millions of jobs” claims: We’re a Brisbane beta. We won’t invent scale metrics we haven’t earned.

Why max three tradies?

Big marketplaces often let many businesses compete for the same job. That floods your phone and pushes price over craft.

We cap access at three so you get a real shortlist, and serious tradies get a fair chance. Quality over volume is the product, not a slogan.

How reviews work

• We encourage honest feedback after a job.
• When reviews are live, we’ll prefer feedback tied to real hires over anonymous noise.
• We won’t buy fake stars or display partner badges we haven’t earned.
• What we care about (alongside stars): fair price, respect, delivered as promised, clear communication, would hire again.

Money

Households: free to post. No obligation. You agree price with the tradie and pay them directly.

Tradies: access via membership / accept fees (transparent when you join), not an unlimited bidding arms race. See For tradies.

Brisbane beta

We’re launching in Greater Brisbane. Local depth first. If something isn’t available in your suburb yet, post anyway. We’re growing carefully with verification standards intact.

Support & complaints

If something goes wrong, talk to your provider first. Most issues resolve with a conversation. If you still need us, open a Dispute on the job — that tells the other person and our team, and you can keep messaging. Our team can read the job messages to understand what happened.

If you are in danger, call 000. Health-service or child-safety concerns: use Dispute (reason: Safety), email hello@handyboomer.com.au, or call 0494 797 256 and we will escalate. Regulator takedowns (QBCC, AHPRA, QLS, TPB, ASIC, OFT) are actioned against the listed credential.
